Brookvale Football Club

Our Rich History

Brookvale Soccer Club was founded by Mr Joe Attanasio and Mr Vince Calacoci in 1962 when they entered a new team named Manly-Milan into the Manly Warringah all-age competition.

The team started with a respectable 7th in the competition table in its first season. The team built on that start in the following season, coming a very competitive 2nd. Then, in only the 3rd year in the competition, our Manly-Milan team won both the Major and Minor Trophies and the Italian Picnic Trophy (at Hollywood Park, a prestigious competition then).

In 1971, Manly-Milan was promoted to Amateur League Division 3, where there was already another team with the name Manly. Our committee at the time, Joe Attanasio, Vince Calacoci, Jogn Dounis, and Sam Zavaglia, decided to change the name to BROOKVALE SOCCER CLUB.

In 1973, 505 Pittwater Rd, Brookvale, was obtained as the club’s headquarters. The intention was to form a licensed club with 300-400 members to finance the club’s operations. For various reasons, the plan did not eventuate, and ever since, the club has been run with the generous help of supporters and sponsors bolstered more recently by income from sources such as the canteen.

In 1980, the club again won both Major and Minor competitions and was promoted to the Premier League.   In 1981, a new committee was elected, with a new president, Mr. Bruno Cara.

In 1983, we fielded our first Brookvale Junior Side (Under 12s) with 200 registered members. In its first year, the Under 12s side won both Minor and Major trophies, scored the most goals in the Manly Warringah Competition, and won a trophy for the side with the most underage players.

Today, our history of top-flight achievement stands proudly at the summit of NSW amateur football. And our junior ranks have expanded remarkably. We now have over 1,300 registered players and almost 90 teams, all proudly wearing the Brookie Blue.
